Canal cruise Delft

Step aboard a canal cruise boat of Rondvaart Delft, and discover one the most historically important cities of Holland. Take in the picturesque Old Town right from the waterways, and learn about Delft’s remarkable history through the ages. Hear about its ties to the Dutch royal family, and its prominence as one of Europe’s artistic capitals. A Delft canal cruise is the perfect day out for history and art lovers alike.

A city of historic importance

During your canal cruise of Delft, you’ll discover that the western city plays an important role in the Netherlands’ history. One of the country’s leading cities in the sixteenth century, Delft was home to the Dutch Prince, William of Orange. When he died in 1584, the official royal burial town of Breda was under Spanish control. Because of this, he was buried in Delft – a tradition that continues today for the Dutch royal family. See the place of his burial, the Nieuwe Kerk, during your Delft canal cruise.

Experience the Old Town

Enjoy the sights of the picturesque Old Town from the best vantage point in the city – the water. Departing from the Koornmarkt canal, the Delft canal cruise navigates its way through the historic city’s intricate network of canals. You’ll get to witness the statue of Hugo Grotius, and cruise past the impressive Oude Kerk (Old Church). The latter is also known as the Leaning Tower of Delft, and happens to be taller than Pisa. Before your canal cruise of Delft, make sure you watch out for the Nieuwe Kerk, or the New Church. To this day, it remains the Dutch royal family's burial vault. Enjoy all the sights the Old Town has to offer with a leisurely canal cruise of Delft.

An artistic wonder

In your Delft canal cruise, you’ll learn it’s home to the infamous blue-and-white pottery, Delft Blue. Delft was also the birthplace of many famous Dutch painters, including Johannes Vermeer. It also cultivated the Delft School, a style of painting that depicted images of domestic life, courtyards and the city’s streets. With a cruise around the canals of Delft, you van take in the very scenes that inspired an historical artistic movement.
